Waiting On GOD And Overcoming

Waiting On God – He Strengthens Us

Waiting On God – Refreshes Us

Waiting On God – Refocuses Our Attention

Waiting On God – brings a host of Blessings

What does it mean to wait on God? How often do we hear Christians, Pastors and great men of God use the phrase Waiting on God? How important is it to wait on God? What are the steps to waiting on God? Hezekiah’s life is a good reference point and a good example if we are to fully understand the phrase waiting on God. They that wait on the LORD shall not be put to shame. When you are fixated on the LORD the unstoppable forces of heaven are put to work for your sake, your going out and coming in becomes His responsibility, He re-orientates His favour to meet your expectation and He strengthens and embolden you to face challenges as they come because He is God and they that wait on Him shall renew their strength.  It is often hard to wait because most times our  ability are wasted on analysing situations,  building and creating pictures of how rundundant we are instead of seeking His face and waiting on the Lord but remember WAITING fine tunes your spiritual antennas for better reception of things of the spirit, …minimizes the chances of focusing on challenges. Please read Isaiah 55:8-9

The NIV Bible says ‘But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength…’
As you wait on the LORD our God, He will strengthen you. The Bible said “But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings as eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

I once heard an illustration about how God strengthens us during trials. It went like this: “Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly to high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it. The eagle does not escape the storm; it simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. When the storms of life come upon us, we can rise above them by setting our minds (hope) and our belief (trust) toward God. You may have been wondering why the eagles? The eagles have a great and esteemed reputation for weathering storms no matter the magnitude. They embrace and align themselves with the wind that comes with the storm, so they are never disadvantaged.

Note this, the wind plays a vital role – the eagles will fly to a high spot and wait for it to come; just like the word of God in our lives, God’s word is there for reassurance to enable us ride the winds of the storms of life. Psalm 119:105 says ‘His word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path’ (NIV). The idea substantially presented here is that the word of God is like a torch or lamp to us in the stormy dark hours of life. It shows us the way, it shines beautifully on the road and is full of instructions; it prevents us stumbling over obstacles, or failing down precipices, or wandering off into paths which would lead into danger, or would turn us away altogether from the path to life. The Bible is our guide, companion and our roadmap in stormy bumpy journeys of life.

Waiting on the LORD is a remarkable thing to do when self fixing becomes impossible, when we experience tragedy, failure and disappointment. When you are thinking of giving up, when you says it’s over it cannot be done. Remember these three steps to waiting on God and overcoming:

  • Then we must learn to trust God to fix our situation. It is obviously the appropriate thing for a Christian to trust in God. He said ‘For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13 NIV). The Lord holds the right hand of his people, teaching them to walk by faith, leading them into his presence, and to communion with himself, and keeps them from falling.
  • We must consciously redirect our focus on Him and turn away from distractions, anxiety and worries. We must focus on starting our day with prayer to God even when the flesh is weak. Fasting is one way of redirecting and reconnecting our focus on the things of the spirit. Fasting disciplines the flesh. Fasting helps to zero in on the things of the spirit by formatting our spirit man to be more receptive to the things of the spirit – to see things from God’s perspective, not our perspective
  • We must learn to engage in acts of devotion and keep an open conversation with God –obey the spirits promptings to pray, seek God, not answer. The Psalmist said ‘Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the LORD hears my voice. (Psalm 55:17 NLT). Daniel prayed three times a day, so was Paul in a time of great distress, he gave himself to earnest prayer for deliverance. It’s absolutely important we have a regular season of devotion, of frequent conversation with God. When you begin your day with Prayer it points you in the right direction not to your distractions, worries or anxiety.

We cannot hide it from God, He is always there for us waiting for you to ask. He can only accomplish His mission when the eyes of our heart are opened to His word and enlightened by His Spirit. And God can accomplish so much in our heart and situation only if we invite Him in to perfect it.

I so much love the Amplified Bible version which says ‘But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.’ God always shines even in our darkest hour because He is disposed to be merciful – remember weeping may endure for a night because it will always be temporal but the long lasting joy of the LORD will come in the morning.

Remember waiting is a time spent in communion with God, it refresh and renews your strength.
